Kayd Open Talk with Professor Ahmed Samatar

Kayd Somali Arts & Culture invites you to the third Kayd Open Talk with Professor Ahmed Samatar, Sunday 12 July, 4pm at Oxford House, Derbyshire Street, Bethnal Green, London E2 6HG.

Professor Samatar will discuss the relationship between culture and development, and why it is important to preserve art and culture in the face of an increasingly modern world.

Professor Samatar is a prominent scholar and former Dean of the institute for Global Citizenship at Macalester College, and the author of five books and over 40 academic articles including The State in Africa: Reconsiderations and The Porcupine Dilemma: Governance and Transition in Somalia. Once a BBC broadcaster, Professor Samatar has lectured at various academic institutions, Harvard University, London School of Economics and Amoud University, to name a few. He is also the founding and continuing editor-in-chief of Bildhaan, the first international journal of Somali Studies.
