Diasporic Voices at Oxford House A Conversation on Storytelling & Identity

One of the most talked-about sessions of Somali Week Festival 2025 took place at Oxford House, where we welcomed three powerful voices: Aamna Mohdin, Samatar Elmi and Muna Dahir Afrah. Each writer brought a unique perspective shaped by memory, migration and the evolution of Somali identity across generations.

The conversation moved between humour, vulnerability and sharp cultural insight. The writers spoke about craft, language, home, loss and the complexity of belonging. With a packed room and standing-room only attendance, the evening proved how deeply the community values open, honest dialogue.

Audience questions pushed the discussion even further, turning the event into a shared reflection on what it means to grow, write and imagine a future as Somali and British.
